Highlights from the A+ Application:
The A+ site visit is next Thursday and Friday. Here is one another excerpt from the application:
Underlying values, beliefs, and traditions. Building trusting relationships, developing strong character, and sustaining a culture of collaboration sets a tone in which all stakeholders can thrive. The Character Counts program is central to our school’s culture and values. The six pillars of character (responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, citizenship, fairness, and respect) provide the foundation on which the entire school community operates. Faculty, students, and their families all support this program, which was initiated in 2003 using a $500 Exxon-Mobile neighborhood grant. In creating this community, the school has a calendar full of activities that contributes to community building. The annual Tour Day, an event welcoming families back before school starts each year, quarterly Spirit Nights held at local businesses, and annual awards assemblies recognizing student achievements are examples of activities designed to bring people together in the spirit of community and celebration. Within the school day, activities occur regularly to foster relationships between students and the staff. For example, many teachers host “lunch bunch” for kids, often by candlelight or on a picnic tablecloth on the floor. Faculty members participate in before- and after-school programs, evening functions, and community events to foster relationships outside the classroom. Special traditions, such as Kite Day, Nursery Rhyme Olympics, and Mother’s Day teas cultivate relationships between students, faculty, and families.
